Similar to many of our towns and villages, Kilworth has suffered from neglect and the provision of excessive carriageway space for vehicular use. This has contributed to a poor quality public realm. Cathal O’Meara Landscape Architects worked with Cork County Council to develop a low cost intervention that can be rolled out as funding allows. This intervention accommodates mature tree planting within the parking carriageway, mitigating the dominance of vehicles and visually narrowing the carriageway, thus contributing to lower vehicular speeds and a more civic urban environment.
